Why?
A prominent, contemporary influencer named Simon Sinek encourages “Starting with Why”. And since I try to make a habit of accepting good advice, wherever I run into it, Why is where I’ll start.
Why EVERYDAY WEEKEND? Simply put: I want to feel good, and I want to share that feeling with others. From there it gets complicated. Is this relatable; that feeling good can feel like a complicated arrangement? It comes, it goes, and doesn’t always feel under direct control? But, for some people, feeling good is simple, straightforward, and effortless. Not the case for me. Recognizing this dichotomy has compelled me to search for what makes it easy for some, and difficult for me. Is it genetic? Is it a skill? Is it money? Well yes…and no.
Wanting to feel good as often as possible has led me in many directions. But mostly it has lead me to learn and to try. It has lead me to study psychology, nutrition, finance. It has lead me to invent products, start businesses, and to be a teacher. It has lead me on countless adventures both wild and domestic. Make no mistake, being a husband and a father are massively adventurous adventures. Some of these activities have felt like massive successes; some like utter failures. (spoiler alert: I’m still happily married and speak, lovingly, with both my children.)
Along the way I’ve come to know what reliably makes me feel good. And I’ve learned a lot about the behaviors and beliefs that reliably help ‘people in general’ feel good. Furthermore, I’ve come across structural and life-organizing techniques that support feeling good. Also, it has become clear to me that, although part of feeling good is a choice, one can structure one’s life in ways that make that choice easier.
EVERYDAY WEEKEND is a focused, practical, constructive approach to achieving personal, professional, and relationship goals. It’s about holding Saturday-morning repose with work-day intensity, all in one hand; in one heart. It is, I hope, a contribution toward the well-being of all.
